LIT vs Other Photo-Sharing Apps

May 20, 2022

There are a lot of apps which allow you to “send” and “share” pictures but none of the existing apps is designed with the intention of helping friends share pictures with one another which they intend to shortlist and store on their device of their cloud storage.

The traditional apps allow you to achieve all of this is a very time-consuming and poorly designed design. We have come up with this app to ease your pain or sharing pictures, looking for the rights pictures, cataloguing them and even storing them!

So, let us say that a group of friends went out on a trip and want to share pictures with one another. What would be the best way to do it? Let us check out some of the popular ways:

1. WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal Group [Amateurs] – Most users are familiar with WhatsApp and stick with it for their photo-sharing needs.

Issues:

  • Degraded picture quality! (it really hurts) (Might not be true for all platforms)
  • A dump of pictures by all the users in a group and user having to find their pics one by one while saving each one of them to gallery
  • God forbid, if the app closes and you lose track of your progress, you have to start shortlisting all over again
  • No possibility of searching for particular pics

2. Airdrop/Bluetooth [Minimalists] – The only good reason for people to use these features is if they want to retain the picture quality while sharing pictures and don’t want the hassle of uploading pictures on cloud!

Issues:

  • Useful only for a few pictures
  • Creates a mess if more than 2 users are sharing pics
  • A dump of pictures by all the users in a group and user having to find their pics one by one while saving each one of them to gallery
  • No good way of knowing who shared which picture and which pictures are captured by primary user. (Credits are imp, duh!)

3. iMessage [Front-runners] – We really love the way Apple does things. But everyone cannot be perfect at everything. This option is rarely used even by Apple users since most of them are not even aware that apple has introduced the feature to share pictures on iMessage which show up in your photo app as well.

Issues:

  • Who uses iMessage? Like really :l
  • This alternative of photo-sharing is only for apple users in your contacts
  • Not so great interface for photo-sharing. To rephrase it, “You can also share photos using it”, but it is not meant for it!
  • Manually select photos you want to save
  • Missing other cool features of LIT App (Read at the end) :P

4. Cloud storages [Heavyweights] – Well if you have tons of pictures, this is probably the way to go. But with traditional cloud storage options such as box, google drive, iCloud drive etc., you lose the ability to perform any photo specific search or even interact with them in a decent manner TBH.

Issues:

  • Nobody goes through all the pictures (Ohk, maybe once in a lifetime if it’s not their album)
  • People get tired of marking and downloading pictures which includes them or someone of their interest
  • The view or the interface is not really ideal for viewing, selecting, and downloading pictures.
  • Manually select photos you want to save
  • Need to manage permissions regarding viewing or adding pictures
  • No SEARCHING abilities!! Booooohhh! How are you supposed to search for that one special picture you have in your mind? (Relax, we’ve got your covered)
  • Google Photos [Tech-savvy] – Ohk, let us be honest. We consider Google photos to be a close competition (At least, relative to other alternatives :P). But it is designed to primarily save and catalogue your pictures and not with photo-sharing in mind! You will see what we mean.

5. Google Photos [Tech-savvy] – Ohk, let us be honest. We consider Google photos to be a close competition (At least, relative to other alternatives :P). But it is designed to primarily save and catalogue your pictures and not with photo-sharing in mind! You will see what we mean.

Issues:

  • It has face-based search! (But who knows?!! Most people are not even aware that google photos has this feature.) However, if you share a particular face-based album with a user, it will scan through and share ALL your pictures :( . You have no ways to limit it to a particular album or timeline.
  • All photos need to be added to your drive before you can filter photos by face. (Basically, save everyone’s pic on your storage, select your pics and then again delete all pic of others :/ )
  • Only one face can be searched at a time :o
  • Lacks ability to tag pictures manually if face is not detected.
  • Difficult to start sharing pictures with someone you just met (No QR code based connect)

6. The LIT App [Visionaries] (Drumroll please) – We are just some folks who share enough pictures to realise what a mess we were in! We love to cherish memories and moments and hate to waste time (lazy is another term)! So, designed this app thinking of all the possible features a group of friends/family etc. need for easier and smoother photo-sharing!

Features:

  • Face-based searches: So basically, you see all pics, you filter by particular faces and then you can simply save those particular pics or share it with anyone)
  • Controlled Auto-sharing: This app only auto-shares pictures while the feature has been enabled for particular faces/friends
  • Distributed storage: Once you have uploaded all the pictures, its time to save your storage ;) Once your friends have joined the album and added their faces, you can move on to delete all the pictures which are not important to you. We will give your friends time to store those pictures on their storage quota!
  • Shared Album: Simply create an album and invite your friends (Phew! Tired AF). PS – You only need to add your friends on the app once, and thereafter we will suggest their names when you create new albums.
  • Platform Agnostic: We are available across all platforms such as Android, IOS, Web interface etc. No matter who and where your friends are, we will sort out your photo-sharing needs!
  • Advanced Search: This is really COOL, so better pay attention! This app allows you to search pics by time of the year, location, faces,..blah blah.., and emotions (*mic drop*).

So, I can search for a picture with Aditya or Aisha where we are in front of a mountain and are smiling!

Isn’t that LIT?! (Don’t answer it, it’s rhetorical *facepalm*)
